Trip to Southeast Asian Cities
The Junior High 4 cohort trip is an opportunity for students to explore, experience, and understand Southeast Asia beyond the classroom. Through meaningful overseas learning opportunities, students develop a deeper appreciation of the region’s diversity, dynamism, and growing significance, while strengthening their understanding of the region and its connections to Singapore.
At the heart of this experience is NJC’s “ASEAN” Learning Journey Framework, which guides students through a structured journey of exploration and discovery:
A – Awaken curiosity about Southeast Asia and its connections to Singapore
S – Situate understanding through purposeful pre-trip learning
E – Engage in authentic, immersive regional experiences through field trips
A – Appreciate the diversity and dynamism of the region through reflections
N – Nurture a deep sense of regional awareness and global citizenship through articulating and sharing their learning with others
Some of the vibrant cities NJCians have visited include Bangkok, Hanoi, and Yogyakarta. In these settings, students step beyond the classroom to experience Southeast Asia firsthand through cultural immersion, industry visits, and meaningful interactions with peers from partner schools. These encounters allow them to see how history, culture, and development come alive in different local contexts, while also reflecting on Singapore’s place within the region.
Beyond the trip itself, learning continues back at NJC as students share their insights and stories with the wider college community. This includes the celebration of International Friendship Day, where NJCians share stories, insights, and reflections that deepen collective understanding of our region and its place in a connected world.
