Literature
The Literature-GS (Government and Society) module provides a structured and distinctive introduction to Literature at the Upper Secondary level, integrating concepts and discussions related to Singapore identity, society, and the role of the citizen.
Through students' explorations of the three strands of poetry, drama, and prose, students access both Singlit and international texts to relate literary craft to civic, global and cross-cultural literacies. Students will engage in close reading and critical analysis, interpreting texts for their literary value, while extending discussions during GS lessons to understand the societal and political contexts and significance that underpin them. A rich array of Weighted Assessments (e.g. creation of ekphrastic poems, short films, dramatisations, and photojournals), alongside a sustained focus on essay writing, enable creativity, collaboration, and aesthetic appreciation.
These activities are all rooted in a consideration of the individual's place in the broader structure of place, community, and society.
