Music Programme
The NJC Music Programme started in 2006 and features a unique curriculum that aims to equip students with acute listening and practical musicianship skills, instil confidence in music making and writing, as well as to provide a rigorous curriculum that demands higher-order critical thinking and independent inquiry abilities. This will enable students to develop as a well-rounded musician to face up to contemporary challenges in their pursuit of their passion.
Our Music students have garnered innumerable awards in music competitions held at the national level, including the Singapore Music Teachers’ Association (SMTA) Music Festival and the National Piano and Violin Competition. On the global stage, students have represented the College at international music festivals such as the Perugia Music Festival in Italy and Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Austria. NJC Music students have also won awards in composition competitions and premiered their works as part of the Young Composers’ Academy at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Young Composers Forum under the Composers Society of Singapore.
Music students have the opportunity to participate in various enrichment activities to support their learning, including workshops, masterclasses and concert outings. All music students perform in Zeitmusik, the Music Department concert, at the Esplanade Recital Studio.
Please note that the Music Programme is only offered to Junior High students.
