English Language and Linguistics
In the world “out there,” there are no verbs, no speech events, and no adjacency pairs. There are particles of matter moving around in certain recurrent and yet not fully predictable patterns. In H2 English Language and Linguistics, English is both the medium of instruction as well as artifact to be examined. Students can expect to be challenged to think critically about the language that they produce and consume, as well as examine real-world issues related to language. They will examine how language is shaped by, and can shape the social context. They will engage with a variety of different texts constructed in different modes of communication, and at the end of their journey with us, become an effective and empathetic communicator.
