Discover how the Junior High Mathematics Programme builds strong problem-solving, communication, and thinking skills to prepare students for Senior High and beyond.
The Junior High Mathematics Programme aims to imbue in students the traits and the development of skills which are aligned with our desired outcomes.
We aim to develop:
a Self-Regulated Learner who adopts a positive learning attitude, while initiating, directing, and reflecting on his/her own learning to foster the 21st-Century Competencies. One also seeks to acquire and sustain the joy of learning within and beyond the classroom;
a Problem Solver who possesses a strong conceptual foundation and critical thinking skills to solve problems from creative perspectives; and
an Effective Communicator who can clearly articulate mathematical ideas and reasoning both verbally and in writing.
In Lower Junior High, students develop foundational algebraic concepts and skills. In addition, the syllabus integrates computational thinking skills and fosters an appreciation for the application of Mathematics in Art. This progresses in Upper Junior High to higher-order thinking questions that build their analytical and critical-thinking skills. These skills are essential to having a good understanding of the subject at the Senior High level. For students who want to challenge themselves further in Mathematics, they can enrol in the Advanced Inquiry in Mathematics (AIM) Programme. (see Advanced Inquiry in Mathematics)
